Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation, hosted the Executive Directors of the Fund of Funds – Alexander Georgiev and Alexander Nenkov – at a meeting in Brussels.
Startups, research, and innovation in Europe are key areas in which the Fund of Funds implements European policies through financial instruments and partnerships in Bulgaria.
The meeting discussed how Europe facilitates and shortens the path from idea to market. The Fund manages EUR 1.026 billion under the Cohesion Policy 2021-2027, of which EUR 831.3 million is European funds – an important resource for promoting innovation and investment. The conversation focused on ways to accelerate the path from idea to market further and promote access to financing.
The opportunities provided by the Fund’s instruments for supporting start-ups, innovation and green transformation were also discussed. Emphasis was placed on the Technology Transfer Fund, whose procedure was launched yesterday and which supports the commercialization of scientific results and cooperation between science and business.
During the meeting, the Fund of Funds' initiative "Best Youth Startup" was also presented, which encourages young entrepreneurs to develop their ideas in Bulgaria and use the opportunities that Europe offers.
