Between November 30th and December 12th , the global environmental conference COP 28 was held in Dubai. State and government leaders from 167 countries took part in the forum, which became another major international stage where Bulgaria stated its position as technological and innovation originator ofproducts and services with global application
At COP 28 our country participated for the first time with its own pavilion, organizing over 20 events and hosting a record delegation of 250 people – representatives from business, institutions, and non-government organizations. The Bulgarian representatives at the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change were selected by the Ministry of Environment and Water, and among the invited participants were experts from the Ministry of Innovation and Growth and the Fund of Funds.
The Bulgarian representation at COP 28 on behalf of the Fund of Funds included our Executive Director and member of the Management Board, Viktoria Hristova. She participated in the panel "Upgrading the Latest Technologies for Industrial Decarbonization in Central and Eastern Europe," which took place during the Enablers' Day meeting. During the event were outlined the efforts of the organizations and institutions in supporting the businesses to be in line with the ESG policies.
"Bulgaria strives to be among the 20 countries in the world with a functioning hydrogen valley," said Minister Milena Stoycheva, referring to data which indicates that decarbonization technologies are increasing between 6 and 11% annually, mainly driven by the construction of EV charging infrastructure and technologies for carbon capture, utilisations and storage, which altogether are expected to represent the majority of decarbonization investments by 2040.
Along with the Ministry of Innovation and Growth and the Fund of Funds, Bulgaria was also represented by the Bulgarian Investment Agency, the Faculty of Economics at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” the Center for the Study of Democracy, the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, the Bulgarian Development Bank. On behalf of the business, the country was represented by Siemens Bulgaria and the start-ups Vodoraslo and Nasekomo, whose development is accelerated through investments from the venture capital funds of the Fund of Funds. In the Bulgarian delegation were included also companies such as Dronamics, Nomad Cabins, Teda Pack, and Plan A. All of them presented their green innovations that address issues related to protecting the planet, reducing climate change, and mitigating the effects of climate change on health.
